The main limitation of the operating system's clipboard is the fact that it can store a single item at a time. You can't paste a file or text fragment after copying other contents. With CopyQ, you can remove this limitation. The application keeps a history of all copied items and it allows you to paste them at any time, in any order you want. Additionally, you can edit clips, create notes, use commands and much more.

CopyQ is available for Windows and Linux and it is offered free of charge. It can be installed in a few moments, without any difficulties. Besides the application's core components, the setup wizard can also install a series of plugins, for highlighted text, support for images, web pages and other contents, encrypting or editing clips and more.

Copied files and text fragments are listed and numbered on a compact user interface. You only need to double click an item to send it to the top of the list, if you wish to paste it. If you have a large text fragment, you can also double click or select individual words and paragraphs, to select and paste them separately. It is also possible to edit text clips, on the application's interface or on an external editor. Edited text clips are stored separately, so you will still have the originals.

CopyQ allows you to create text notes and assign them to individual clips. Obviously, clips are stored when you copy a file or a piece of text. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the items over the user interface. Another useful feature is the possibility of storing clips on separate tabs. Copied files, text or URLs are stored on the same tab, but you can store them on separate tabs yourself if you wish to categorize them.

Pros

The application can "remember" everything you copy to the clipboard. You can paste entire text clips or individual words. It is also possible to edit text clips and to assign notes.

Cons

CopyQ won't store any clips when you press the PrintScreen key. With its simple, but effective functionality, CopyQ gives you full control over your clipboard.
